Day 3, Guatemala

On Wednesday we docked in Guatemala. It was SOOOO hot! We didn't have anything planned for the day but ended up running into a guy we had read about on the internet. He offered an all day tour which included a boat tour down the Rio Dulce, a visit to a local school, and a meal & entertainment at Livingston. So we joined Gus and his gang on the El Delfin.

Pictures of our boat and the houses and landscape along the river . It was beautiful.

Recognize the symbol on this building? This is the Church of the Nazarene.

See the bird on the lily pads?

It was humbling to watch the people bathe and wash their laundry in the river. We are so spoiled!

We stopped to swim in a volcanic hot spring. The water on the top was very hot, underneath it was cold. If you mixed the water up as you stood in it, it was very comfortable - almost like a hot tub.

Part of our tour included a stop at a local school in the jungle. Because it is so expensive to send children to school, they have developed a special school to train their children about the tourism industry. At this school they learn to speak English and learn all about tourism. From there they hope to be hotel managers, tour directors, etc. This is where the classes were held on the campus. The wall behind Gus is covered with fliers and pictures of cruise ships and other touristy things.

These girls thought Tyler was cute. They turned shy as soon as Ron pulled the camera out, though.
