Snow Days

It rained overnight on Tuesday night after I took some of those pictures, so a lot of the ice had fallen off the trees by morning. It didn't totally melt, though, and made the ground under the trees look like someone had emptied coolers of ice cubes all around. After the rain everything froze back up, including our yard, which was treacherous!

On Wednesday morning Clara walked outside and slipped down the steps. She got up and came right back in the house, where she waited as long as she possibly could before attempting to go back out to do her business. When the birds visited the feeder by my patio, some would land on the patio wall and slide several inches before stopping. Some slipped backwards off the patio. It was kind of funny to watch. Here is one bird who must not have found a good spot to wait out the storm. There were several with small patches of ice on their tail feathers, but this guy was the worst.

We had another snow day today because 3 of the 5 schools in our district were without power. This was our 3rd snow day this week. No calls so far, so I think the kids will have school tomorrow. Normally I don't mind having the kids home, but we're over our allotment of snow days now AND it's hard to keep everyone entertained when it's too cold to go outside and play and the roads are too bad to go anywhere.

The roads were better today so we went to the library for a little entertainment. It's nice having kids who love to read. While we were there we sat in a poofy chair and read a couple books together just like we used to when they were little. Both kids love the nonfiction section of the library, so we always spend time on that side before heading to the children's section. Tyler found a Hot Wheels collectors guide that he found pretty interesting. Danielle picked out a butterfly & caterpillar field guide, which I thought was kind of funny. In the children's section my favorite find was a cute book called Not All Princesses Dress in Pink. I finally cut them off when they reached 20 books.

It's been kind of nice to have the kids home and have all our evening activities cancelled. I suppose it's back to reality tomorrow...just in time for the weekend.

(I know this picture isn't related to anything, but I thought it was cute.)

So, were you actually at the library reading off your fines?

I only have $1.10 in fines. I'll let it accumulate a little first. Actually, I always forget you can do that. I just pay them off when they get to $5. That usually takes quite awhile.

Cheer up. When you reach senior citizen status, they stop fining. Guess they figure it's too hard for us to remember to return the books on the right day.
