Graveyard Cake

It's now October, so it's ok to pull out the Halloween decorations and bake some Halloween goodies. Tyler's school is having a carnival this weekend and one of the activities is a cake walk. The PTO solicited donations of baked goodies for this activity, so we had a good excuse to bake today.

We made a graveyard cake to donate. I knew it would be fun to decorate, so Danielle and I actually baked 2 cakes this afternoon - one for us and one for the carnival. (We used chocolate cake rather than a pudding mixture because the cake walk items won't be refrigerated, but you could make this like dirt dessert.) When Tyler got home from school, he and Danielle decorated our cake.

They added crushed oreos for the dirt. (Looks like he's up to something, doesn't it?!)

Then the tombstones (chocolate covered graham crackers that I decorated). Tyler especially liked "Ima Goner", which ended up directly behind a ghost so you can't see it in the picture below.

Finally some ghosts (marshmallow peeps) and some mini pumpkins.

They were proud of their graveyard.
