Vacation Wildlife

We left for vacation a day later than anticipated due to Danielle's softball tournament (I'll post more about that later). We left before sunrise this morning and spotted our first wildlife about 2 miles from our house. There was a deer standing beside the road, his eyes reflected back in our headlights; however, the deer that was standing IN the road wasn't facing us and was much, much more difficult to see. We did see him in time, but he turned to run toward us, rather than away. Ron swerved into the other lane and everyone lived to tell the tale.

After we arrived in the Smoky Mountains, we checked into our cabin and then went for a short ride through the National Park. We didn't see any bears, but I did happen to spot this juvenile bald eagle while we were driving.

We ate dinner in town and then came back home to enjoy a little pool and hot tub time. As we rounded the bend before our cabin, a momma bear and her four little cubs walked up the steps from our porch and across the road into the trees. Two of the babies were a little slower and I managed to pull my camera out in time to snap photos. They were so cute! I can't believe they were on our front porch. We will be sure to look out our windows before throwing open the front door!

That's a lot of wildlife to see all on the first day. I hope we haven't peeked! :) I'm also thankful God watched out for us and kept us safe while traveling.

4 cubs! Did they all look the same age?

They did. That momma had her paws full. :)
