We had a busy but very fun 4th of July weekend.
We started on Friday with a trip downtown to see the fireworks. We went with Ron's parents and extended family. Including us, there were 13 of us. The kids enjoyed being the center of attention - which included silly string, ice cream, whistles, a hot pink boa, and sparklers. The people watching was a little scary, but the fireworks were really good. We were so close that we could see the depth of the fireworks. ("Depth" meaning the ash looked like it was going to fall on our heads!) We really had a good time.
Tyler was in the parade on Sunday. The Cub Scouts had a float and passed out candy. It was super hot, but he had fun.
Sunday evening we attended a cook-out at the neighbor's house. We had so much fun. As you can see, there was lots of entertainment for the kids.
We ended the day with a neighborhood gathering to watch the fireworks. Although the fireworks are shot off from the park, we have a relatively decent view in our development, so we got permission from the city to close a portion of the street. It was neat to see all the neighbors gather together in the street. The kids all ran around together, sharing glow-bracelets and sparklers before the show, and then ooooohing and ahhhhhing together once the fireworks started. I love living in a small town. Correction, I love living in our small town.
Ron's parents came over for lunch on Saturday, and then we went fishing that evening. Ron was off yesterday so we took the kids to see How to Train Your Dragon and did some pre-vacation shopping (suntan lotion, bug spray, etc.) It was a very full weekend, but it couldn't have been any more perfect.
