The County Fair

One event I look forward to each summer is taking the kids to the county fair. Since we are going to be on vacation during our county's fair this year, we attended the fair in my hometown last week. This year we took Grandma C and Uncle Ron.

There was a Lego building contest, so the kids each brought a creation to enter. There were 4 different age groups, and thankfully Tyler & Danielle did not have to compete against each other. Danielle made a house with some kids playing in the pool & on the swingset, and the dad headed out to work. There was even food on the table in the house. Tyler made a sea base with a submarine. There are parts that move to scan the treasures, a detailed office, and some other details that were explained to me but I don't remember. Both kids came in 2nd, but coming in 2nd was kind of like getting a ribbon for participating. (There were a lot of 2nd places.) The kids were very pleased with the results, which is all that really mattered. They had fun working on them, too.

Of course, you can't visit the fair without enjoying the food, riding a couple rides, and playing some games. I did NOT let the kids play any games where the prizes were live animals! At one game the kids could have won goldfish or a rabbit! At another game, one prize was a baby iguana! What are these people thinking??!! We stuck with the winner-every-time-duck-pond with the inflatable bat and semi-fuzzy monkey prizes.

The kids especially enjoyed the animals. There was a lot of giggling about animal smells, noises, actions, and parts. The way I see it, any day that we can be outside giggling & making memories together is a good day.
