In Danielle's Words...

(Danielle asked me if she could pick out a picture of the turtle and write a couple things for me to post. So, basically, this is Danielle's post.)

I found a turtle at the park. It is an Eastern painted turtle. Its name is Snappy. Snappy is a baby turtle. He is funny. Snappy likes to eat worms. Snappy likes to swim. Snappy is cute.

Snappy IS cute! So is Snappy staying? I saw Ron's FB status and wasn't sure...

Nice post, Danielle! Does Snappy have a painted belly? Why is he a "painted" turtle?

Leah - yes he's staying, at least for awhile.

Mom - I'll relay your comment to Danielle and post her reply tomorrow night.

Here is Danielle's response:

It's called a painted turtle because the shell has reddish-orange marks on its shell that looks like paint.

She asked me to post another picture that better shows the underside of his shell, so I added that to this post. The dark spot on his belly is his equivalent of a belly button. I think it will eventually disappear.

Thank you, Danielle. I can see how it got it's name.
