Summer Fun

On a trip to Walmart to purchase new tomato cages and a new filter for our air conditioner, we happened past the Nerf supersoaker aisle. Walmart didn't have any wire cages or the correct size filter, but they came through in providing for our water arsenal needs. Tyler chipped in his share of the garage sale money to "upgrade" his gun to the canon.

The kids had fun chasing each other around the yard and happily ambushed Ron when he got home from work.

Danielle had another late game this evening. It was a very good game - nice and close. In fact, it went into an extra inning where we finally won by 1 run. It was after 10 by the time we got home. I'm so glad it's summertime!

Strawberries!

It's strawberry pickin' time!

The kids and I went to the farm this morning to pick strawberries. With all the rain we've had, the berries aren't as plentiful or as big this year, but they still have plenty of flavor! We had a difficult time finding many in our first couple rows, but we requested a different set of rows and did much better.

Of course, part of our problem may have been that Tyler was eating everything he picked!! I thought the stem trail was kind of funny....although he wasted a lot more than just the stems. Oh well. That's all part of the experience, and he enjoyed himself.

It got hot quickly, so after awhile the kids went and sat in the shade while I finished filling one of our buckets. We enjoyed slushies on the front porch when we were done, and the kids snacked on fresh strawberries the rest of the afternoon.

Welcome Summer Break!!!

Today was our first day of summer break. Finally! I now have a 2nd grader and a 4th grader. :( We didn't do much to kick off our break. We had our annual last-day-of-school water balloon fight yesterday. I couldn't take any pictures of that because I seemed to be the main target. Between the kids, they had a little over 80 water balloons. I had 20. That doesn't seem fair, does it? We had a lot of fun! Things got rather quiet after that because both kids were feeling ill. They were better today but still not 100%.



Danielle had a dentist appointment to have a baby tooth pulled today, too. Doesn't that sound like a mean thing to make your kid do on her first day of summer break?! After her dentist appointment we stopped at the local greehouse so the kids could pick out some flowers. They each planted a flower box to care for this summer. I would love to plant some flowers around our patio this year, but we have some warranty work that needs to be done and I think that will include digging up part of our beds.



Tomorrow is our annual summer fun garage sale. I have been dragging my feet this year, so we are having it a couple weeks later than usual. Hopefully we'll have a good turn out. There are lots of things I'd like to do this summer.


One of the banks in town handed out Class of 2022 tshirts to all the 1st graders (who are now 2nd graders). 2022. Doesn't that make you feel old?!























Our robins have all left the nest. 2 of them were gone this morning. The third was gone by sunset tonight. The empty nest is a little sad looking. It was fun watching them grow up, and I'm thankful our neighborhood hawk and wandering kitties didn't discover them. I didn't see any of them fly, but this guy was stretching & flapping his wings a lot yesterday.

Baby Robins

Here are some robin pictures from today. I can't believe how quickly they're growing now! They will be ready to leave the nest within the next couple days. They'll stick close because they won't be able to fly well for about another week, though.
