Yesterday was our last day of school - HOORAY!! Here is a picture of the kids on their last day:
Here they are on the first day this year.
Tyler has thinned out even more, and Danielle is looking more like a teen instead of a tween. (Tyler is in his swimsuit because the 8th graders have a pool party on the last day of school.) Both kids finished strong. Tyler got an award at school for being on the honor roll this year, which means he maintained a gpa of 3.5-3.9. Danielle got a science award, an award for being top in her class in math, for scoring above 85% on all her vocab tests, and for maintaining a 4.0 the entire school year. I can't believe Tyler is now a freshman, and our baby is now in jr. high.
We had our annual water balloon fight after school but I think I'm getting too old. I suggested to the kids that next year we should start a new tradition of ice cream instead of water balloons. Danielle said, "You mean throw ice cream? Ok!" :) The best part of the water balloon fight, beyond the giggles, was that afterward the three of us sat on the patio steps and chatted about our days and about the days ahead. That part was well worth the soggy clothes.
We have a lot of fun activities planned for this summer. Getting things started is Danielle's first softball tournament tomorrow. Tyler leaves for his 8th grade trip to Washington DC on Tuesday. Both kids are busy, but we will do our best to fit in activities we can enjoy together. After all, we only have 4 summers left before Tyler graduates. Excuse me while I look for the tissues...

We are curious to know how many inches the kids grew over the year :) When comparing where Danielle comes up to on Tyler, it's obvious he grew a lot!
Tyler is on the taller end for his age, and Danielle is on the lower end, so I suppose Danielle looks even shorter standing next to Tyler! He's grown about 2.5" in the past year. He grew a couple inches the year before, too. Danielle, on the other hand, is growing much more slowly. She's only grown about an inch this year. I think she will hit her growth spurt sometime this coming year, though.
